I thought I would post a review of our Canon G12 back up camera.
Wowzers, over time we had the Canon G2, G5, G7, G11 and now the G12 – these are what I would call professional grade Point and Shoot cameras. Over the years many people ask us for Camera recommendations and this one is definitely our top pick for the photo enthusiast – well each time my answer is the Canon G-series
With a price tag of CAD $ 520 – Canon G12 provides exceptional image quality, versatility and portability.
The lens or glass on the camera is superb, providing sharp and IS – image stabilized images, the camera has a hot shoe that allows for a flash like the Canon 580 EX2 or a off camera flash trigger to be mounted and used. This is one of the most appealing feature to us here at HanaFoto as Off Camera Flash photography is our passion. But I would not venture into the grounds of shooting a wedding with the G12 – but sure is handy!
Some of the new features that this camera that we like are:
- 720p HD video
- front dial for aperture adjustment
- flip – articulating 3″ LCD display
- shooting in RAW & JPG
- 10 Mega pixels (better than 12 or 15) trust me
- Hot shoe for flash and triggers
- Underwater enclosure (coming soon) – so cool to get great shots under water

But if you are looking for something smaller there is another Canon Camera That I recommend is the Canon S95 – check it out ! and it shoots at f2.0 = great for low light!
